My bank card doesn't work. What should I do?
You may not have sufficient cleared funds in your account to cover the transaction. If you haven't already got an overdraft, you could ask for one at a branch or apply for an overdraft or an increase in your borrowing using Online Banking. Read about overdrafts.
Your card may have been refused because of a temporary systems problem that prevented authorisation. The card details may also have been incorrectly input by the retailer. Try again later. If the problem persists, the card may be damaged.
To replace a damaged debit card (eg Connect or VISA Electron) contact any branch or call Telephone Banking (if you're registered) on 08457 555555 as soon as you notice it.
For Barclaycards only, contact Barclaycard customer services on 0844 811 9111 or 0800 587 2104 (Textphone). Lines are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week - see call charges info. To maintain a quality service, we may monitor or record phone calls.
You'll receive your replacement card in four to five working days. When you have the replacement, sign it immediately and destroy the old one. If you need a replacement card urgently, tell the member of staff when you contact us.
