Ask a question

Can I use my debit card to guarantee a cheque?

Not anymore. The UK’s Payments Council scrapped the Cheque Guarantee Card scheme in June 2011 because of the number of alternatives now available to pay for things. You can still write cheques but won’t be able to guarantee them with your debit card, even if it has the cheque guarantee hologram.

For more details, visit the Payments Council website.

Alternative ways to pay include, Online Banking Barclays Pingit and the Barclays Mobile Banking app.
