How old do you need to be to open a Student Account?
You can apply for our BarclayPlus account if you're aged 11 to 15. In the summer following your 16th birthday we will write to you advising that your account has been upgraded to our Young Person's Account. This account is available to 16 to 19 year olds, whether you are in further education, working or taking a gap year before starting higher education studies.
At 18 you'll have the option of either upgrading your account to a student account if you're going on to full-time higher education, or upgrading to a Barclays Bank Account if you're working. Alternatively, if you're continuing in further education or taking a gap year, before starting higher education studies, you can remain on the Young Person's Account.
