What's the difference between current cleared balance and last night's balance in Online Banking?

The following balances are shown in Online Banking:

Current Cleared Balance:

  • This is the money that's available for you to use immediately.
  • It's updated during the day to include new payments and transfers made into and out of your account.
  • This balance can include payments that you've recently made and that have been authorised but haven't yet been taken from your account, eg a debit card payment. It will not include cheques that you've written but that have not yet been presented for payment.
  • This balance doesn't include anything that's been paid into your account but hasn't cleared, eg a cheque.

Last Night's Balance:

  • This is the balance at the end of the previous bank working day (6.30pm).
  • It includes all payments and transfers that appear on your statement whether cleared or not.
